Abstract
Flowering characteristics of seedling Campanula takesimana Nakai native to Korea was examined by monthly sowing starting from January 15 to July 15 in 1994 in the unheated greenhouse. Seedlings sown monthly during from January 15 to April 15 flowered from the end of September to the middle of October. Mature leaves when they first bolted were more or less than 30 leaves, and percent flowering was about 80% to 90% across sowing dates. Except for flowering seedlings, however, the rest, seedlings sown monthly from May 15 to July 15 remained vegetative during the 1st year of sowing, and then they bloomed during the end of May in the next year. As sowing date was delayed, the days to first bolting and the flowering were decreased. The number of days from bolting to flowering, about 40 days, were not affected by sowing dates. Seedlings sown on April 15 were the best in respect of cut flower quality, including the length and the fresh weight of cut flower, the number of flowers per flowering stem, and the diameter of flowering stem.
